Some Effective Ways to Stop Foot Odor   by Peter King

Foot odor is due to the action of bacteria on Sweaty Feet. When you wear shoes, the sweat remains inside and promotes the growth of bacteria. The microorganisms eat the dead skin cells, thrive on the moisture and release a product known as the isovaleric acid. The product smells awful and is likened to a rotten fish or dead rat. The odor is too strong that it can diffuse in the whole room in a matter of one minute. Because the smell is repulsive and upsetting, finding the right treatment is important. Here are the proven ways to get rid of the foot odor.

Improve your Personal Hygiene

Before and after wearing your shoes, make it a habit to wash your feet. The dirt and bacteria stay in the skin and contribute to the foot odor if you do not wash them. Use soap and water when washing and pay attention to the spaces in between your toes. Wipe them dry and apply Foot Powder. The powder will reduce the perspiration, leaving no room for the bacteria to proliferate. You can also apply foot deodorant to the area to reduce the unwanted smell.

Deal with your Socks

Nylon traps moisture in your feet.
If you want to free yourself from the foot odor use materials that will allow your feet to breathe. Throw away your nylon footwear and use cotton or wool socks instead. Nowadays, you can also buy antibacterial socks to deter the microorganisms from taking advantage of the sweaty environment. Although they are slightly expensive than the regular types, your investment will free you from embarrassing situations.

Bathe your feet in lukewarm water with salt. The salt has an antibacterial effect and the warm water relaxes your muscles. If you have tea tree oil at home, add a few drops of it to your solution. Soak your feet for a few minutes for several days and you will see an improvement in your problem.

Treat an Underlying Condition

Foot odor can also be due to fungal infection. When you have athlete’s foot, better see your doctor to get the right medication for your infection. Fungal creams kill the microorganisms and indirectly address the awful smell of your feet.

Drugs

If the sweating is excessive, leading to the foul odor, your physician may prescribe anti-cholinergic drugs to deal with the nerves responsible for the perspiration. However, the use of the drugs has certain side effects, making them the last resort. Before taking any drug,consult your doctor and follow their directives in treating your foot odor.
